This project brings together concept development and craftsmanship. The school wanted to refresh its interior with an artwork that honoured its roots while looking to the future. The challenge was to portray its founder, D. Luis, without resorting to a conventional, static portrait.
We developed a design inspired by the geometric complexity of Picasso's Guernica. We approached the wall as a visual puzzle: rather than a linear narrative, everything happens simultaneously, connected by lines of tension and angular shapes.
The narrative: a puzzle of values
Painted in an elegant monochrome palette of burgundy red on white, the mural expresses the school's identity in several layers:
- The centre — history: D. Luis presides over the composition in his most intellectual and active role, as a writer and journalist. Wearing a suit and holding a pen, he is shown in the act of creating, rather than in a rigid statue-like pose.
- The connections — a rounded education: a world of interconnected symbols unfolds around the central figure. Staves and notes represent music; balls and sticks represent sport; gears and books stand for innovation and knowledge.
Technical execution
Transferring such a geometric design to a wall demands precision:
- Clean lines: in a style based on cut-out shapes and silhouettes, every line must be crisp. The contrast between deep red and the white wall makes a strong but orderly visual impact, ideal for an educational setting.
- Architectural integration: the mural follows the length of the staircase wall, accompanying students on their daily route and quietly reminding them of the foundations of their education.
At Dale Color, we go beyond painting walls: we create visual narratives. We develop complex concepts and have the technical skills to realise them faithfully.
