For the setting of “Regreso a los 90” (Back to the 90s), Dale Color transformed the interior of a theatre on the rooftop of La Vaguada in Madrid. The brief was to bring the show's world to the walls through neon graffiti: a blend of colour, lettering and references to 1990s popular culture.
Neon spray paint transforms the dark background into a continuous composition that accompanies visitors through the space. Pinks, greens, yellows and oranges stand out under the interior lighting, creating an atmosphere inspired by the music, video games and memories of that decade.
Neon graffiti for a 90s setting
The design brings together familiar elements through loose strokes, luminous outlines and spray drips. The variety of motifs reveals new details as you explore the walls.
- Lettering takes centre stage: “Regreso a los 90” and large numbers sit alongside words, stars and lightning bolts that set the composition's rhythm.
- Video games and nostalgia: a handheld console, characters and classic gaming symbols connect the painting with the objects and arcade machines in the space.
- Musical references: microphones, notes and artists' names mingle with smiley faces, peace signs and other graphic elements.
An interior mural that becomes part of the show
The intervention was conceived as a setting for the whole venue, with motifs spread across different walls. The dark background ties the route together and lets the neon colours stand out, while the painting interacts with the theatre's display cases and exhibits.
The result brings the show's theme into its surroundings: the story is not only on stage, but can also be read and recognised on the walls.
